Women’s bodies don’t really belong to them. That goes double for the poor, women of colour, HIV positive women and any other group that society can single out as less than “normal”.

Writing Women—The ‘Ugly’ Clause

By zooey + June 17th, 2009

There appears to be an unwritten rule of women’s magazine journalism that states no matter how staggeringly, jaw-splittingly, super-humanly attractive a female interviewee is there must be at least one conversation between subject and journalist about the subject’s (imaginary) flaws.

Daily Male: Rape Apologists

By zooey + April 5th, 2009

It sticks in my craw that when, according to Home Office research, up to 85,000 women are raped in the UK each year the Daily Mail comes out and says men are the REAL victims.

The Independent reports, Chacon has committed a terrible “gaffe”…. Anything a woman does or says can and will be used against her in the court of public opinion. The more powerful that woman is the more vicious and hateful her detractors will be. Male politicians have been cocking things up since the beginning of time, yet they carry on.
