R&B super-couple Chris Brown and Rihanna are coming over all Ike and Tina Turner. Brown was arrested and bailed after beating up a woman in his car; apparently, Rihanna, who was treated for ‘visible injuries’ after the incident.

The New York Times ran a piece on lesbian separatism and the future of womyn’s spaces in the US this weekend, and a) I thought it was totally interesting, and b) it gave me warm fuzzies, and not just because I think lesbians in their early 70s are one of the best demographic groups on the planet by any objective rubric.

The article primarily focuses on a single community in rural Alabama – Alapine – so there are plenty of lessons that might not be generalizable to other types of space. Still, the practical and theoretical difficulties of bounding off and policing space are incredibly important to feminist praxis, and it struck me that the article provides a lot of fodder for those types of discussions rather than any DIY guide to rural feminist self-sufficiency.
