Date: 21/05/09

Time: 5:30pm–6:30pm

Place: Borders Book Shop (downstarirs), Magdalen Street, Oxford

As part of this year’s Ladyfest Oxford we will be celebrating women in literature by holding book group event on Thursday 21st May at 5.30pm downstairs in Borders (on Magdalen Street). We will be discussing Joyce Carol Oates’ short story ‘Faithless’ (from the collection Faithless: Tales of Trangression), a story in which two adult sisters recall their mother’s disappearance during their childhood.

Oates is an inspired writer, and a formidable psychologist. She has a thrilling way of grasping an emotion, wasting no time in judicious rumination but launching herself straight at the aching heart of the matter.

Independent

We will be joined by Dr Tessa Roynon, a research fellow in English at St Peter’s College.
You don’t need to be an English student; all are welcome for a friendly and informal discussion of women and gender in literature.
