The next Sex and the Cinema night is this Wednesday, February 18th, 7.30pm, in the Daubeny building opposite Magdalen college. We’ll be watching the high-energy antics of Angelina Jolie in Lara Croft: Tomb Raider! Afterwards we’ll discuss to what extent Lara Croft represents the Ideal Woman in today’s society. The conversation will probably touch on topics such as girl-power feminism (a move towards gender equality? A perversion of genuine liberation? Both? Neither?), videogames, virtual reality, celebrity, and why big breasts and tight clothing remain necessary for today’s movie heroine - but we’ll no doubt go off on plenty of tangents along the way…

We are lucky enough to have film studies tutor Maria Donapetry to lead the discussion, though no academic knowledge is required! It’s about sharing impressions, ideas, and opinions. Do bring friends along, especially those who are not involved with WomCam. And men are especially welcome, as the choice of film ought to have made clear. Oh, and it’s completely free - hooray!
